Annual Conference of Kyiv National Organization of the Union of the Ukrainian Writers appealed to the mayor of Kyiv, former boxer and world champion, Vitaliy Klitchko (he refused the Ukrainan transliteration of his name – Klychko), to accommodate a poet Vasil Holoborodko in Kyiv.

Vasyl Holoborodko is a classic of Ukrainian literature, his poems are taught at schools. In the times of Soviet invasion of Ukraine he was pressured against dissent and his book was not allowed to come out for about 20 years. In 1983 in Yugoslavia there was published a corpus of the world poetry “From Rabindranath Tagore to Vasyl Holoborodko”. Vasyl Holoborodko presented Ukrainian poetry. In 1994, Vasyl Holoborodko became a winner of State Award of Ukraine named after Shevchenko.

In 2010 Holoborodko’s children’s book “A glove full of verses” took a prize “White Raven” at a Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

The books by Holoborodko were edited in English, German, Portuguese and Polish languages.

In 2015, according to NUUW information, Vasyl Holoborodko was nominated for Nobel prize in Literature. The information was not approved. Although it’s known that a famous in Ukraine and in the West Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko asked a PEN-center to initiate the nomination of the poet for the Nobel prize in Literature.

“Such poet like Holoborodko doesn’t fit for “anti-Ukrainian Donbas” as well as he didn’t fit for USSR ideological stereotypes, so neither in soviet nor in post-soviet Ukraine, he didn’t find his proper niche in Ukrainian Literature. According to his biography, one can make out a schedule of “Ukrainian freedoms” of the latest half-century. As soon as liberalization starts in Moscow – Holoborodko is published, read, awarded and known as a great literary. When Moscow starts “special operation for the repression of Ukraine” – they expel Holoborodko from everywhere, make him to work in mine and to live in the employee dormitory and he is known only abroad”, – says Oksana Zabuzhko.

Vasyl Holoborodko’s belongings and dwelling were left on the territory of Donbas occupied by Pro-Russian militants and Russian militaries which are financed and armed by Russia.

On the photo from Facebook – the writer Kostiantyn Koverzniev together with his son Bohdan Koverzniev have visited Vasyl Holoborodko (he is in the middle of the photo)  in Irpin guest house for writers not far from Kyiv.
